Meet the Session

Session members are called Ruling Elders. They are not staff or church “board members” in a corporate sense. They are called from among the congregation to listen for the Holy Spirit, pray for the church, and help guide our shared life in Christ. They are called ruling elders not because they “rule over” others, but because they help the church discern its faithfulness to the Word of God, also known as the rule of faith and life.

Ruling Elders are women and men elected by the congregation for, ordinarily, a 3-year term of service. Before serving, elders participate in a season of preparation and are examined by the Session regarding their faith, understanding of Presbyterian theology, and sense of call. Each elder brings unique gifts, experiences, and perspectives—yet all serve with a common commitment: to love God, care for God’s people, and help the church live into God’s mission in the world.

Once ordained, elders remain elders for life—continuing to share responsibility for leadership, prayer, and witness, whether or not they are currently serving on Session.
